I used Ipswitch’s WS_FTP to upload my files to my Boston College FTP/Web space.WS_FTP can connect to any system that has a valid Internet Address and contains an FTP server program, allowing you to transfer files between a wide variety of systems, including Windows, OS/2, and UNIX systems. FTP allows the fastest and safest means of file transfers on the Internet. When you use FTP to download files from an FTP site, you are actually running an FTP client (such as WS_FTP) on your PC.FTP site (definition)An FTP site consists of an FTP server program located on an Internet host computer. WS_FTP provides a number of popular FTP sites that have already been configured for you. When you connect to an FTP site like this, look for a file called readme, readme.txt, index, or 00index. Such files provide descriptions of the resources available on the site as well as other useful information.· File repositories where you can place files for use by others. It took me a while to actually get the hang of the whole process but eventually I was able to get through it.

Mitchell Baker and Mozilla Assignment

-Mitchell Baker is the chairman and former executive of Mozilla corporation.
- Mozilla is Microsoft's Internet Explorer competing rival.
-Mitchell has been part of Mozilla corporation ever since the beginning when it first started to develop.
- She earned leadership within the company due to her interest and determination in expanding Mozilla.
- She has been able to maintain Mozilla, through the years, at the top level both financially and publically.
-She is very open minded and appreciates those who volunteer and work for the corporation.
- She agrees that what makes them different is that safety while using the internet is their top priority.
-Mitchell argues that Mozilla's soul purpose is for people to be able to navigate the internet in a fast and safe way.
-Something that distingushes her from many other corporation leaders is that she likes to confront issues by making them public something many do not do.
- She views the corpoations' volunteers and employees as a healthy and social community.
- Mozilla allows for people to wonder and discover many new things within their reach.
-Mozilla's management style is open-source group which Mitchell agrees is far more reliable than the traditional management styles.
- Something very unique about Mitchell Baker is her enthusiasm and sarcasm at being able to fix problems that rise within her organization.

Second Life Snapshots

These are the snapshots I took of my avatar, Mely Galli, in second life. I explored the different areas in orentation island. I experimented with the different tools available to control the avatar. Such tools like flying, chatting, and communicating. I think that the fact that in orientation island the help icon is available through out the island is pretty cool and useful.

Hardware Component Assignment-Ipod

The Ipod was created in 2001 by Apple. It is a brand of portable media players. All Ipod devices, excluding the Ipod touch, can serve as data storage devices. Apple has a software called Itunes in which music can be transferred to these devices. Itunes stores a music library in which the person can play, burn, and and rip music from a CD. It transfers things like photos, videos, and games to the Ipod as well. The Ipod was created in less than a year by Jon Rubenstein and a team of engineers.
Apple did not create this device on their own. They referred to portable players’ 2 ARM cores to help them on the Ipod’s operating system. Apple contracted another company, Pixo, to help design and implement the user interface. The fonts were changed throughout the process. Starting with the Ipod mini, they used the font chicago. They ended up with the font helvetica, used mostly in third generation Ipods.
The name Ipod was proposed by freelance copywriter, Vinnie Chieco, who was called by Apple to find a way to introduce the new device to the public. He got the name from a phrase mentioned in the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey”. The trademark was assigned to Apple by Joseph Grasso in 2005.
The Ipod can play MP3,AAC/M4A, protected AAC, and AIFF to mention a couple. The Ipod photo can display JPEG, BMP, GIF, etc. The Ipod was only able to work with macs. However, the software can now work with windows and macs starting with second generation Ipods. The Ipod is associated with one host computer.

Google Inc. Chief Executive Eric Schmidt called Yahoo Inc. CEO Jerry Yang to offer his company's help in any effort to stop Microsoft Corp.'s unsolicited $44.6 billion bid for Yahoo. Google is Microsoft’s chief rival on the internet. It is considered unlikely that Google would itself bid for Yahoo because of regulatory concerns related to their large shares of the search and online advertising markets. Google could potentially offer money, or guaranteed revenue in return for a Yahoo advertising outsourcing pact.
Google in a blog post yesterday said Microsoft's pursuit of Yahoo "raises troubling questions" about whether it would give Microsoft too much power that could be abused. Microsoft responded by saying the deal would "create a more competitive marketplace by establishing a compelling No. 2 competitor for Internet search and online advertising." Yahoo has said its directors would weigh the Microsoft offer and any alternatives, including keeping Yahoo independent, "and pursue the best course of action to maximize long-term value for shareholders." Yahoo already had been in negotiations in recent weeks to outsource its Web-search advertising in Europe to Google.
The discussions with Google, which could potentially be a first step to a broader search-ad outsourcing deal, are expected to continue despite Microsoft's approach. The two sides recently hit a disagreement on the revenue split between them. Google identified instant messaging and Web email accounts as areas where a Microsoft-Yahoo combination would have "an overwhelming" market share. Microsoft had clearly identified competition from Google as a key reason behind its bid for Yahoo. Google also has a potential interest in trying to stop Microsoft, or at least make it pay more for Yahoo, given that the two compete in a growing number of areas ranging from search and online ads to consumer email, word processing and spreadsheet offerings.

Facts on blueray vs hd dvd:

* The difference between a regular dvd and these two technologies is that blue ray and hd dvd deliver a high definition video experience on a disc.
* The two technologies do not work together nor do they work with regular dvd's.
* Blueray and hd dvd have much more room to store data than dvd's which means better quality video and audio.
* Blueray is said to hold 50/GB per disc leaving the hd dvd 30/GB per disc behind.
* The main reason for the conflict between the two is the cost of each format, companies that support either one, and the other items that they are bundled with (for example, blue ray comes with playstation 3 and the hd dvd must be bought separately to be able to play it with the x-box 360).
* Play Station 3 gave the blueray disc a big head start when it first came out.
* Consumers will always seek to buy the cheaper item. Although Toshiba has lowered the price of the players by a 50% as of now.
* Consumers say that hd dvd gave a better feeling of dimensionality which gives better detail in the image.
* Blockbuster has started to offer blueray dvd rentals and refuse to offer hd dvd ones.
* For people who rent on a weekly basis, that is a huge advanatge for the sales of blueray discs.
* It is possible that these kinds of players will come included with the next computer that we might buy. This would also increase the sales for each player.
* Preference for either one depends on what kind of viewer you are. For example whether you are into game systems, audio, picture quality, or the overall advanced technology that these players offer.
